Luis Buenaventura has announced that February 2026 will be his final month as the Head of GCrypto, the cryptocurrency division of the Philippine fintech giant GCash.
Buenaventura confirmed his departure on Thursday, 12 February 2026, concluding a tenure focused on integrating crypto trading into the country’s most popular mobile wallet.
Since joining GCash in late 2023, Buenaventura has overseen significant growth for the platform. Under his leadership, user volume increased approximately tenfold.
He also established key partnerships with industry leaders, including Tether, Circle, the Ronin gaming chain, and the Kaia blockchain.
Beyond technical integration, his team focused on crypto education through initiatives such as community-oriented events and the publication of a dedicated comic book available within the app.
Reflecting on his time with the fintech firm, Buenaventura attributed these milestones to a collective effort, stating:
While he noted he has “no solid plans yet” for his next professional move, his resignation occurs alongside his new appointment as the President of the Blockchain Council of the Philippines (BCP).
In his capacity as BCP president, Buenaventura has pledged to improve transparency and bridge the gap between private sector entities and government regulators.
His departure from GCrypto marks the latest chapter in a decade-long career that has included co-founding the BloomX exchange and serving as the country manager for YGG Pilipinas.
