The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and SM Supermalls officially launched the MMDA–SM Smart Mobility and Traffic Information Sharing Project at SM Megamall, marking a significant step toward making daily travel more informed, efficient, and commuter-friendly.
REAL-TIME TRAFFIC UPDATES. SM Supermalls senior assistant vice president, regional operations head, Christian V. Mathay and MMDA chairman Atty. Romando “Don” Artes led the launch of the MMDA–SM Smart Mobility and Traffic Information Sharing Project at SM Megamall
Anchored on the shared goal of enhancing commuter convenience, the project integrates real-time traffic updates from MMDA’s AI Traffic Management System into SM Supermalls’ Mall Digital Directories, giving mallgoers instant access to live road conditions while inside the mall.
To check traffic updates, mallgoers only need to follow these easy steps:
With the tagline “PLAN AHEAD, TRAVEL SMART! Because every journey matters. Stay informed with real- time traffic updates at SM!” the initiative reinforces the role of malls not just as lifestyle destinations, but as practical hubs that help people make smarter decisions beyond shopping and dining.
Through the new system, mallgoers can simply tap the Traffic Information icon on selected Mall Digital Directories to view live traffic feeds from key Metro Manila roads. This allows visitors to better plan their routes, avoid congestion, and time their departures—turning waiting time into informed time.
The project reflects a seamless blend of public service and private sector innovation, transforming everyday mall touchpoints into tools that support smarter mobility and urban efficiency.
The launch was led by MMDA chairman Atty. Romando Artes, alongside Mila Silvestre; Director of Public Information of MMDA. Representing SM Supermalls were senior leaders including Christian V. Mathay, senior assistant vice president – regional operations head; Egbert T. Lim, group head – senior assistant vice president; Royston A. Cabunag, department head, assistant vice president; and Patrick Raymund G. Pacla, division head, vice president Cyberzone and sponsorship.
Both organizations emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing everyday urban challenges, with the project serving as a model for how technology and shared data can directly improve commuter experience.
The MMDA–SM Smart Mobility and Traffic Information Sharing Project is part of SM Supermalls’ broader commitment to community-centered solutions—bringing convenience, connectivity, and real-world value closer to where people already are.
As the initiative rolls out and made available soon in other SM Malls such as SM North EDSA and SM Mall of Asia, it reinforces a simple but powerful idea: when people are informed, they move better—and when cities move better, everyone wins. – Rappler.com
