Trump sues IRS for $10 billion

President Donald Trump sued the IRS on Thursday for a whopping $10 billion, according to a new report.

The lawsuit claims the agency failed to prevent the president's tax returns from being leaked during his first administration, NBC News reported. The lawsuit, which was filed in Miami, also claims that Trump is suing the agency in his personal capacity, and not as President of the United States, according to the report.

"Defendants have caused Plaintiffs reputational and financial harm, public embarrassment, unfairly tarnished their business reputations, portrayed them in a false light, and negatively affected President Trump, and the other Plaintiffs’ public standing," NBC News quoted from the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed at a time when Trump was seeking retribution for the way he was treated during his first administration. He has already sued multiple political foes, including Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The lawsuit against James was dismissed because it was filed by a hand-picked Trump prosecutor who was illegally serving in her role, according to a court order.

Trump's tax returns became a flashpoint during his first administration as Democrats and investigators sought to prove his ties to the Russian government. A former IRS contractor is serving a five-year sentence for leaking Trump's tax returns.
