Elon Musk's bombshell June accusation June accusation that Donald Trump's name appeared prominently in the Jeffrey Epstein files sparked a massive public demand for their release. Now those revelations are creating complications for Musk himself, as his own connections to the deceased sex offender.
According to the Washington Post, Musk has used his X platform to call for the arrest and prosecution of individuals linked to Epstein, a convicted sex offender who cultivated relationships with prominent figures in technology, finance, and politics. However, when the Justice Department released millions of pages of documents from its Epstein investigation last month, Musk featured prominently in the files.
The Post documented a recent Musk attack on LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman over an Epstein party invitation. Musk wrote: "The big difference between you and me, Reid, is that you went and I did not," adding, "UNLIKE YOU, I came to my senses and declined to go."
Musk later took to X to address the matter, writing: "No one pushed harder than me to have the Epstein files released and I'm glad that has finally happened. I had very little correspondence with Epstein and declined repeated invitations to go to his island or fly on his 'Lolita Express', but was well aware that some email correspondence with him could be misinterpreted and used by detractors to smear my name."
His denials have not resolved questions about messages in which Musk wrote to Epstein, "When should we head to your island on the 2nd?" and "What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?"
Mohamad Safa, executive director of the human rights group Patriotic Vision, responded to Musk's statements: "He should be investigated like any other individual whose name has been mentioned, regardless of social, political or financial status," and asked, "Why did he wait until now to speak out?"
