Social media platform X is set to launch Starterpacks within the next few weeks. The new feature will let users instantly follow curated lists of accounts based on specific interests including cryptocurrency and Bitcoin.
X head of product Nikita Bier announced the tool on Wednesday. He said the company spent months identifying and compiling top accounts across more than 1,000 interest categories. The feature aims to make onboarding easier for new users.
The Starterpacks tool covers topics ranging from cryptocurrency to politics, fashion, technology, and business. A preview video showed subcategories like meme coin trading, economics discussions, software development, and crypto personalities.
Bier explained that X operates as an interest-based network rather than a contact-based one. This structure makes it difficult for new users to build relevant feeds. Experienced users often spend years manually finding and following accounts to create their timelines.
The launch comes as data suggests crypto engagement on X may be declining. Bitcoin cypherpunk Jameson Lopp shared statistics on Tuesday from social media entrepreneur Jean-Christophe Gatuingt. The data showed posts containing “Bitcoin” dropped 32% in 2025.
Bier said account growth is one of X’s toughest challenges. He explained that the platform’s real value emerges when users move beyond mainstream news feeds and explore niche interests. However, discovering these communities can be difficult for newcomers.
The X team has spent six months testing solutions to improve the discovery process. Starterpacks represents the result of daily iterations aimed at helping new accounts find relevant content faster.
The feature allows users to select interests during signup and immediately follow pre-made packs of accounts. Each pack contains curated lists of top posters in specific categories. The crypto section alone includes multiple subcategories for different types of users.
Users interested in meme coin trading can follow a dedicated pack. Those focused on Bitcoin development or economic analysis can choose packs tailored to those areas. The system is designed to compress the timeline-building process from years into seconds.
X is not first to market with this feature. Decentralized platform Bluesky released Starter Packs in June 2024. Bluesky users can create and share custom account lists around shared interests.
Meta’s Threads platform began testing similar functionality in December 2024. Threads allows users to follow custom feeds created by other platform members.
Bier said X’s version includes over 1,000 pre-made packs covering both broad topics and highly specific niches. The cryptocurrency category contains multiple options designed to match different user preferences and trading styles. The feature will be available to all users when it launches in the coming weeks.
