Rep. Nancy Mace’s attempt on CNN to gloss over a Senate funding bill aimed at getting most of the Department of Homeland Security paid ended badly when one of her Democratic colleagues explained it contained far more than she stated.

The South Carolina Republican was sitting on a “State of the Union” panel with host Jake Tapper and Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA) when the CNN host asked her about the competing funding bills between the House and the Senate.

“I thought that the Senate compromise funded everything except for ICE, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP),” Tapper prompted Mace.

“It funded TSA only,” she replied. “That was my understanding of it, but we didn't get funding for Border Patrol. That was very important, especially when you have the national security risks we have right now. We should be funding all those things, all of it together.”

Asked for comment, Subramanyam stated, “That's not how I read it.”

“It funded everything but ICE and part of CBP,” he elaborated. “And in fact, they actually funded parts of CBP that deal with visas, for instance. And it was a deal that the Senate Republicans passed unanimously with House Democrats willing to support it.”

“We didn't get everything we wanted either, but that's how compromise works, that's how deals work in Congress. House republicans are the only thing standing in the way of ending this airport chaos right now,” he accused.

“That's just not true,” Mace attempted as the CNN host moved on.
