Biotech Pioneer Expands Into Web3 With Altcoin Investment

2025/10/07 22:07

Instead of treating the acquisition as a simple portfolio diversification, Silo is positioning it as a strategic bridge between biotechnology and blockchain innovation. The company believes decentralized science (DeSci) could transform how breakthroughs are funded, shared, and rewarded, offering scientists a transparent alternative to traditional publishing models.

ResearchHub, founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong in 2019, allows researchers to share findings, peer-review work, and earn RSC tokens for their contributions. The project has drawn attention for its attempt to “open-source” the scientific process – removing paywalls and bureaucracy that often slow discovery.

Silo Pharma’s CEO, Eric Weisblum, said the investment represents more than a financial move: it’s a philosophical alignment with the next evolution of research infrastructure. “We see blockchain not only as a financial tool but as a mechanism for accelerating innovation in medicine and beyond,” he explained.

Following Silo’s announcement, ResearchCoin’s price climbed by around 4%, bringing its market capitalization to roughly $60 million. The token is currently listed on Coinbase, where trading volume surged as news of Silo’s involvement spread.

By stepping into the DeSci space, Silo Pharma becomes one of the first biopharma firms to directly support a Web3-driven research model. It signals a growing trend of traditional science companies embracing blockchain to democratize access to knowledge and potentially fast-track global collaboration in biomedical discovery.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Appeals Court Hearing Saw Skeptical Judges

The post Sam Bankman-Fried’s Appeals Court Hearing Saw Skeptical Judges appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. This week saw the Second Circuit Court of Appeals hear arguments in Sam Bankman-Fried’s appeal of his criminal conviction. The three-judge panel appeared very skeptical of his attorney’s arguments. The narrative FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s appeal was always going to be an uphill journey. Senior Judge Lewis Kaplan, the Southern District of New York jurist who oversaw the trial, is generally well-respected and the bar for securing a new trial is high. Why it matters Short of a presidential pardon (which still seems unlikely), this hearing may have been Bankman-Fried’s last chance at securing an early release from prison. While he’s been posting on the site formerly known as Twitter through a friend, the legal case has wound its way through the appeals process to the November 4 hearing. Breaking it down Circuit Judges Eunice Lee, Maria Araújo Kahn and Barrington Parker all appeared skeptical of appellate attorney Alexandra Shapiro’s arguments that Bankman-Fried did not receive a fair trial. To quickly recap: the appeal centered around the request that the former FTX CEO receive a new trial with a new judge because, in Bankman-Fried and team’s view, Judge Kaplan was biased against him. Bankman-Fried was not allowed to argue that he was listening to lawyers or that FTX’s creditors were going to be made whole, the appeals filing said. “The defense was cut off at the knees by [Judge Kaplan’s] rulings,” Shapiro said halfway through the hearing. The judges did not appear to buy these arguments. Judge Kahn asked about whether FTX’s issues were not liquidity, rather than solvency, as well as that a recent Supreme Court precedent held that just taking the funds was sufficient…
