Jupiter is a leading decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator on the Solana blockchain. Its native token, JUP, is central to the ecosystem's governance and long-term sustainability. The total supply of JUP is capped at 10,000,000,000 (10 billion) tokens.

Issuance and Allocation Mechanism

The JUP token supply was initially split equally between the team and the community. The allocation is structured as follows:

The Strategic Reserve includes a specific allocation of 500 million JUP (5% of total supply) for SPL MER tokenholders.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The primary function of the JUP token is governance. Tokenholders participate in the Jupiter DAO to vote on critical ecosystem items, including:

• Approval of projects to be launched via the LFG Launchpad.
• Disputes regarding the "Strict List" of tokens.
• Allocation of ecosystem grants.

Incentives and Yield:

• Jupuary: An annual airdrop event designed to reward active users and stakers, fostering long-term engagement.
• Referral Program: Integrators and users can earn fees from swap transactions. Jupiter typically takes a 2.5% share of any platform fees charged by integrators.
• Liquidity Provision (JLP): While JUP is the governance token, the JLP (Jupiter Liquidity Provider) token is used for the perpetual exchange. 75% of all fees generated from perpetual trading, swaps, and minting/burning are reinvested into the JLP pool, causing the JLP token value to appreciate over time.

Locking and Unlocking Mechanism

Jupiter employs a structured vesting and locking strategy to manage market supply and prevent shocks.

• Team Vesting: The 2 billion JUP allocated to team members is subject to a one-year cliff, followed by a two-year vesting period.
• Strategic Reserve Lock: This allocation is locked for at least one year. The community must be given a minimum of six months' notice before any liquidity event involving these tokens can occur.
• Launch Pool Lock: During initial token launches (such as the January 2024 open market sale), JUP tokens were placed in a Dynamic Liquidity Market Maker (DLMM) pool with a seven-day lock to provide price support.

Unlocking Schedule and Key Dates

The unlocking process is designed to be completed largely by 2027, with minor residual distributions continuing through 2030. Recent and upcoming significant unlock events include:

• January 22, 2025: 700,000,000 JUP (approx. 41.51% of circulating supply at the time) for the Jupuary 2025 airdrop.
• January 31, 2025: 466,666,667 JUP.
• February 28, 2026: 200,000,000 JUP.
• Monthly Vesting: Throughout 2025 and 2026, regular monthly unlocks of approximately 53,472,222 JUP occur, representing roughly 1.5% to 1.9% of the circulating supply per event.
• January 31, 2027: A major milestone unlock of 200,000,000 JUP.
